Nas has quietly amassed a pretty solid label with his Mass Appeal Records and artists like Fashawn, Dave East, Ezri, Stro, Cantrell and 070 Phi. While in an effort to introduce or in this case re-introduce a good portion of the roster to the masses, the Queens emcee/boss has released a new EP, Starting 5: Compilation Vol. 1. An 8-track EP that according to a statement, “marks the beginning of an annual series, every year, Mass Appeal will choose 5 of its artists, rising and established, and send them on a nationwide tour, paired with an EP showcasing the current talent.”
In this case the five touring artists that are set to start this year’s Starting 5 tour in Santa Ana, California, tommorow, February 6th being: Fashawn, Ezri, Stro, Cantrell and 070 Phi. While this first incarnation of the series of EP’s features the five touring artists, label boss, Nas, as well as Black Milk and Keyon Harrold.
One of the not only most anticipated, but easily standout tracks from the project being the intro track, Apostles that features Nas, Fashawn and Ezri. As well as being produced by the very amazing Statik Selektah. Statik’s very soulful and piano-laden sample based track easily one of the illest to drop so far this year and really complementing the truly stellar verses from all three emcees. Especially Fashawn and that you can listen to below and let us know what you think.
