Beyoncé Leads 2023 GRAMMYs Nominations, Ties Husband, JAY-Z For Most Ever Nominations In GRAMMYs History

It is that time of year where everyone agrees or disagrees about the nominations for music’s most coveted award, a GRAMMY. With living legend and icon, Beyoncé, backed by her smash chart-topping hit Summer album, RENAISSANCE, receiving nine nominations for the earlier today announced upcoming 2023 GRAMMYs. That includes the very coveted major categories of Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Song of the Year. As well as nominations in the Best Dance/Electronic Recording Album and Best Dance/Electronic Album among the categories, Queen Bey, was nominated in that we aren’t used to seeing her nominated in.

Following not far behind Beyoncé and her nine nominations to no surprise is, Kendrick Lamar. Who received eight nominations for his mostly critically-acclaimed and chart-topping most recent solo album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. Which was also nominated in the Album, Record and Song of the Year major categories. With, the latter also receiving for Best Rap Album. While, The Heart Part 5 received nominations for not only Record and Song of the Year, but also Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song and Best Music Video. Kendrick’s collaboration with Blxst and Amanda Reifer, Die Hard, receiving a nomination for Best Melodic Rap Performance. Speaking of GRAMMYs history, Kendrick’s Album of the Year nomination also helped him make history. By becoming the first artist to ever have four consecutive albums nominated for Album of the Year.

In a continuation of women empowerment over the past several years. Powerhouse vocalist, Adele and singer, Brandi Carlile. Follow closely behind Kendrick with seven nominations each. That includes most of those same three major categories. Aside from those nominations mentioned. Some other notable names in the Album of the Year category include, living legend, icon and Queen of Hip Hop Soul, Mary J. Blige for her most recent album, Good Morning Gorgeous. Bad Bunny for, Un Verano Sin Ti, Coldplay with, Music of the Spheres, Lizzo with, Special and Harry Styles with, Harry’s House. For Record of the Year. Aside from Beyoncé’s, BREAK MY SOUL and Kendrick’s already mentioned, The Heart Part 5. Other notable nominee’s include MJB’s, Good Morning Gorgeous, Adele’s, Easy On Me, Doja Cat’s, Woman, Steve Lacy’s, Bad Habit and Lizzo’s, About Damn Time. For Song of the Year there’s a lot of those same nominee’s with the exception of one surprise being DJ Khaled receiving a nomination for his JAY-Z, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, John Legend and Fridayy collaboration, GOD DID. The latter also receiving nomination’s for, Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song. That helped JAY-Z also push his number of career GRAMMYs nominations to 88. Tying with his wife, Beyoncé, for the most nomination’s in GRAMMYs history.

The Best New Artist category is a very diverse and competitive one. That includes the likes of Brazilian singer and songwriter, Anitta and very great singer and songwriter, Muni Long. As well as rapper’s, Latto and Tobi Nwigwe. Plus very talented duo, DOMi & JD BECK.

Other notable categories that are somewhat controversial include Best Rap Album. Where along with Kendrick’s album and Pusha T’s most recent solo effort, It’s Almost Dry, there was also nomination’s for Jack Harlow’s, Come Home The Kids Miss You. Plus surprise nominations for Khaled with, GOD DID and Future with, I NEVER LIKED YOU. The latter two or even three easily can have gone to the likes of Danger Mouse & Black Thought, Freddie Gibbs and Saba. As just a few examples.

In the newly formed Songwriter of the Year category. Nominees included both veterans and newbies. That range from The-Dream to Amy Allen, Nija Charles, Tobias Jesso Jr. and Laura Veltz. While in the newly formed Best Spoken Word Poetry Album category veteran Chicago wordsmith, J. Ivy with his most recent solo album, The Poet Who Sat by the Door. Was among the nominee’s. Besides Ivy, living legend, icon and Blues great, Buddy Guy. Is the other Chicago connection to receive yet another GRAMMYs nomination to his already storied and remarkable career with a Best Traditional Blues Album nomination. For his most recent album, The Blues Don’t Lie. Speaking of Chicago connection’s. Remarkable R&B/Soul singer and songwriter, Ravyn Lenae. Is among the several surprise snubs for the GRAMMYs. Who should have at the very least been nominated for Best R&B Album for her very remarkably amazing debut album, HYPNOS. She released earlier this year. With Jessie Reyez, Ari Lennox and Kehlani also among the more surprising artists to not be nominated as well.
