#OccupyWallSt Erects Statue in Protest of Jay-Z

Jay-Z Occupy Wall Street Sculpture

Jay-Z Occupy Wall Street

An interesting piece of “Protest Art” was erected in the Occupy Wall Street camp yesterday. It is a sculpture in Totem form depicting some of pop cultures’ most notorious wealthy and greed stricken icons. Well, too some extent. The statue is a mold of Jay-Z draped in gold chains with a dollar sign pendent , rising above are the heads of Monty Burns from The Simpsons, Scrooge McDuck, and Richie Rich at the very top.

The sculpture, created by artist Daniel Edwards, was brought about due to the controversial decision made by Jay-Z and his Rocawear brand to manufacture a shirt that reads “Occupy All Streets” clearly utilizing Occupy Wall Streets likeness. After selling the shirts, he’s not contributing to the movement, which is leaving the protesters and supporters upset.

I understand both sides of this argument, Jay-Z is a “business” man. I’m sure it’s not that he doesn’t want to contribute to the Occupy cause, but what about the multiple entities that are fighting over the TRADEMARK to “Occupy Wall St”. I’m sure once that battle is won they’ll be coming after Rocawear with the Cease and Desist.
