Mobile Armageddon: Part 1: The Motorola Droid RAZR

Today is a spectacular day in the mobile industry. Lots of goodies to see and hear about. The Blackberry Dev Con is today, as well as Apple’s earnings call where they tell the world about how they made another 700 billion dollars. But BIGGER than all of that are the two Android announcements. One by Motorola and Verizon. The other by Google and Samsung. First up:

Motorola Droid RAZR

Remember the MOTO RAZR? The “world’s thinnest flip phone”. Everybody had to have one of those sleek flips. At one time it was the worlds most popular cellphone. Then, Motorola rested on their laurels and the RAZR disappeared into obscurity. Well now, the RAZR is back! And its brought its two big buddies to back him up. The Android operating system and the Droid franchise name.

The MOTO Droid RAZR is a true beast in the smartphone arena. Weighing in at only 7.1mm thin, with a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Advanced qHD capacitive touch Gorilla Glass screen and a stainless steel core with a laminated construction and KEVLAR fiber outer casing, this bad boy will instantly shoot to the top of Verizon’s line up(Hey boss… This is the one you trade that Droid Charge in for!). But that’s not all it has. Not by a long shot! The Droid RAZR also has a 1.2 GHz dual-core CPU and 1GB of RAM. A specail MOTO Splash Guard protects it from water damage as well. The 1,800 mAh battery gives 12.5 hours of talk time and 8.9 hours of video viewing. The phone will also come with MOTO’s custom Webtop Apps and Smart Action Apps to manage your battery life. MotoCast will be its cloud software feature for your content syncing with the cloud. It also comes with government grade encryption tools for all of your corporate needs as well as Msft Outlook, remote wipe and pin encryption. It will also be the first phone to download movies in HD straight from Netflix. Accessories include two laptop docks, a navigation dock, HD station and HD dock, wireless keyboard and a portable power pack.

Now THAT is a beast of a phone worthy of a press announcement(I’m looking DIRECTLY at you Apple and iPhone 4S). The MOTO Droid RAZR is available for preorder on October 27th and available in stores in November for $299. I wonder how many iPhone 4S devices will be traded in for this baby! 😉
