The Associated Press reports that a Utah judge agreed to grant an inmate’s request to be executed by a firing squad. The convicted killer, Ronnie Lee Gardner, was given the choice of being killed by lethal injection or shot by a five-man team of executioners firing from a set of matched rifles.
Only two other men have been executed via this method since the upreme Court reinstated capital punishment in 1976, and Utah is one of two states(the other is Oklahoma) that considers a firing squad acceptable punishment.
