After taking things to church to end 2017 with his Family Feud visual, JAY-Z lightens things up to start 2018 with his newest 4:44 visual, Blue’s Freestyle.
Which coincidentally premiered at 4:44 pm yesterday as a TIDAL Exclusive on Blue Ivy’s sixth birthday. The animated Maurice Taylor-directed video finding Blue at Taylor Hall doing her much-talked about solo track from JAY’s album for a talent show where she’s supposed to be doing her ballet recital, but instead of her ballet she’s supposed to be doing, to the surprise of both her parents she starts droppin’ her semi-hilarious and technical bars from her rap on JAY’s album. Though she does eventually incorporate parts of her ballet as well, the cartoon Carter’s, who are seated in the auditorium, are momentarily shocked to hear their oldest daughter, until they realize she’s going off with her mic skills. To which they start smile and bopping their heads with pride and joy, like everybody else in the audience.
You can watch the very fun, lighthearted, equal parts cute, gibberish and quasi-technical skill, new animated visual below, which has a pretty hilarious ending too. The new video also leaving just We Family, the title track and Caught Their Eyes with Frank Ocean as the only tracks from the album now to not receive visuals.
