You can never go wrong with Twista catering to the ladies over a smooth instrumental. As it’s always like musical heaven whenever he does and when you add fellow Chicago native Jeremih to the mix, the chemistry is undeniable. Such is the case with the Chicago and Hip-Hop legends newest single, Next To You. A mid-tempo jam, which samples and interpolates Rose Royce’s classic, I Wanna Get Next To You, that you definitely heard in the cult classic Friday. It also features a smooth and infectious hook from Jeremih with his own updated R&B sound on it. Singing, “I wanna get next to you, Tonight I got my Christian Dior’s, when I get home.” With how very similar to his smooth and classic slow jams, Girl Tonight and Slow Jamz, this newest record sounds you could say whether he is doing it consciously or subconsciously, Twista is trying to recreate that sound to get back to the top of the charts again. Which when those are his two highest charting records to date, you can’t blame him, even if he’s in someway intentionally trying to recreate that sound to do so. Either way it’s a record that should definitely get a lot of radio play, but let me know if you think it will end up being one of Twista’s biggest chart toppers of his career? Update on Saturday Oct. 22nd: I got word from Twista’s manager that this is a stand alone single and not from a new album. Twista is working on a new mixtape entitled, “Crook County”, though. So lookout for that hopefully in the near future.
