Pop Icon Janet Jackson doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon. As after the recent announcement of her new comeback album and tour in support of the album, it was announced early Tuesday that Janet will be receiving the first ever Ultimate Icon: Music Dance Visual Award at this weekend’s upcoming BET Awards.
A milestone for not only Janet, but the awards show as this will be the 15th annual show. Which will be held at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 28th at 8 p.m.
There’s a very special dance tribute from some of today’s biggest pop stars in Ciara, Jason Derulo and Tinashe that will be performed before the 49-year-old singer accepts the award too. With Tinashe even saying how honored she was to perform in the tribute because of how much of an icon Janet is and what an inspiration she’s been to such emerging pop stars as the Los Angeles singer/songwriter.
The news also comes on the heels of Janet releasing her new single, No Sleep, which debuted Monday on the singer’s Twitter account and website. A record which will be on the said as-yet-untitled comeback album. Which is due later this fall via Jackson’s own Rhythm Nation Records/BMG.
No Sleep will also be performed during the tribute. This being the first time in six years that Janet will be on the BET Awards too. As she last appeared on them in 2009 when she paid tribute to her brother Michael, who had died three days earlier on June 25th. The BET Awards will also include performances from Kendrick Lamar, Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj.
