Could Obama be the Peacemaker the world has been waiting for?

From the first incursion into the Spanish territory of Mexico in 1806 to the 2003 invasion of Iraq, America has employed the the use of military force, hundreds of times-deposing hostile regimes, instigating coups and protecting its national interests by any means necessary.  Why has American Foreign Policy been consistently aggressive?  Will Iran be next to suffer its wrath?

Here’s a tantalizing question as the word gets into the United States of Planet Earth, could America’s 200 year run of bloody realpolitick be coming to an end?  And is Barack Obama the man who can pull off this momentous transition?  Could he become a genuine peacemaker, daring to do only what a handful of leaders have done-apologize and make amends for his country’s past transgressions?  Can you picture the montage?  Obama embracing Fidel on his Havana deathbed apologizing for the Bay of Pigs…Obama jetting off to Tehran to talk about grievances that date back to the 1953 CIA sponsored overthrow of the Mossadeq government.

Obama crossing border into Gaza mingling with the people announcing the end of the U.S. military support for Israel until all settlements in the West Bank are dismantled.  Can you picture Obama settling into motion a process by which global nuclear disarment will be achieved?  Then rising up amid the increasingly mad scramble for whats left of the world’s natural resources and announcing that the American way of life is negotiable, and that he is ready to negotiate a fair and equitable arrangement for all?

Could Barack Obama be this man? Can you visualize him emerging as the first geopolitical peacemaker-the next evolution in the tradition of Ghandi and the King-the one who pilled humanity back from the brink of anarchy and collapse.

He’s nationalizing banks, taxing the rich and expanding welfare programs.  Is President Barack Obama leading America into a brave new socialist future?
