We all have been hearing the terms “Hip Hop is dead” or “Hip Hop never died”, whether it died and came back or is still dead, Hip Hop is definately being reinstated back to how it used to be in the “Good Old Days”. You’ve got artist sending a more concious message and those sticking to the more
playful “non-gangster” side of Hip Hop. Recently XXL Magazine did an issue on Hip Hop’s “Freshmen 10″. The Freshmen are Currensy, Kid Cudi, Charles Hamilton, Wale, B.O.B, Asher Roth, Ace Hood, Cory Gunz, Blu, and mickey Facts.
With a lineup like this it is no doubt that they raise the bar for the expectation of Hip Hop and raising the quality of music to challenge artist that already made it major and those to come, showing that it is cool to be “Out of the Norm” or cool to do your own thing(ex. Currensy skateboards and raps with Team Ice Cream’s Former Team Captain Terry Kennedy).
Dont be surprised when you see these artist featured with well known urban clothing lines such as Crooks and Castles, Shmack Clothing, and 10 DEEP. These guys are stressing the fact that fashion is a part of Hip Hop. The fashion aspect is growing so fast it could be hard to keep up with without being called the dreaded “Hypebeast.”
