The recent news that North Carolina passes Amendment 1 now adds a constitutional amendment that bans gay marriage.

This Amendment has put North Carolina in the International spotlight today but not in a positive way, “Dear North Carolina” became a Worldwide Trending Topic on twitter minutes after it was announced that the Amendment had passed.

With a parody account of Lord Voldemort from the fictional Harry Potter series saying, “Dear North Carolina, Dumbledore does not approve.”

While some people had a dark sense of humor about the defeat most of the International reaction towards the news was negative and brought up old stereotypes about North Carolina that makes the state look bad.

In an unprecedented move by a Texas Baptist church, the battle for equality has gained some significant ground in the warzone of religion. The Royal Lane Baptist Church of Dallas effectively alienated itself from Texas’ largest umbrella group for Baptist churches, the Baptist General Convention of Texas, when Royal Lane pastor David Matthews announced that the church welcomes and will ordain homosexuals.

Such alienation from the larger network of Baptism does not come without cost, however, as the church will essentially be on its’ own when it comes to relief work and other church missions as long as the prevailing Baptist ideology holds homosexuality as sinful.
