Late Great, Bob Marley’s 75th Birthday Celebration Kickoffs With New Video, Redemption Song

The Marley Family, Universal Music and Island Records have teamed up to celebrate the late great legendary cultural icon, Bob Marley and his life.  Beginning today on what would’ve been his 75th birthday, they released a very inspirational and surreal new video for Marley and the Wailers’ timelessly iconic classic, Redemption Song.  Which is also celebrating its 40th anniversary.

Created by French artists Octave Marsal & Theo De Gheltzl, the breathtaking animation features 2,747 original drawings that represent the song’s message of emancipation.  Powerful Jamaican imagery such as a powerful lion that wears a crown, eventually growing wings and flying away from a kingdom.  To powerful images of former great leaders such as Marley himself, Martin Luther King Jr., and Malcolm X, who were for the empowerment of black civilization, as well as the manifestation of hope and recovery for all mankind were shown throughout the new clip.  To even more amplify the magnitude of the song’s timeless lyrics and importance even still in today’s world.

Inspired by Bob’s homeland of Jamaica, as well as insights received from his family, the artistic approach was to illustrate the imaginary world of Bob Marley in a way that highly stimulates self-reflection.  The creators having the following to say in a statement, “From the history of Slavery and Jamaica, Rastafarian culture, legacy of prophets (Haile Selassie the 1st, Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X), as well as Bob’s personal life, we take the audience on a journey through allegories and representations.”

The video is the first installment in MARLEY75 as well.  A year-long celebration of what would’ve been the late great Reggae legends 75th birthday.  Which will feature YouTube videos that will incorporate new and exciting content that encompasses all things music, fashion, art, photography, technology, sport and film.  While providing fans unprecedented access to archives from the legendary artist’s estate in new, thoughtful and innovative ways.

His sons Ziggy and Stephen will also help commemorate his birthday by headlining The BeachLife Festival with a Bob Marley Celebration.  That will see them perform an extensive catalog of their late great father’s for the immersive music, art and culinary oceanside event that takes place over three days in Redondo Beach, CA
