Gang Starr Announces Historic Comeback Album, One Of The Best Yet, Drop New Single, Bad Name

On the heels of Gang Starr surprising us with new music in the form of their very amazing comeback single, Family and Loyalty, last month and it’s just as amazing new accompanying video a couple of weeks ago.  Thanks in large part to the iconic living legend, DJ Premier, it looks like we actually will be getting a new album from the legendary duo in the form of the newly announced, One of the Best Yet.  Which is set to drop even sooner than anybody would think, on Nov. 1st.

With the announcement of the new album, which is currently available for pre-order, the tracklisting was also revealed.  With features ranging from everyone from, M.O.P. to Group Home, Freddie Foxxx, Big Shug, Royce Da 5’9″, Q-Tip, Talib Kweli, Nitty Scott and several other range of guests for the 16-track effort.

Also with the announcement comes the release of the second single from the album, Bad Name.  A very bone chillingly dope effort that has Guru sounding as fresh and insightfully magnetic as ever over Premier’s timeless boom-bap backed production.  Just as if the two never lost a beat and he was still here in the physical form, Guru, shows he still has the pulse of  the culture.  With such standout bars as, “Beef is what’s up now.  Careers are gettin’ shut down.  The media wants something meaty.  People are fuckin’ greedy.  Music and culture is like a foreign language.  You be better off stagin’ a fake beef from Spanglish.  Compadre, can you handle the whole weight?  ¡Ay, Dios mío!, watch’em swallow your whole plate.  You used to support your fam’ off of this.  Now you can’t even buy spam off of this.  And I don’t deal with swine, I ain’t Dr. Phil.  I’m truly here to heal your mind.”  Eerily real lyrics about what’s still going on in not only a lot of the music industry, but society in general.

This along with the J. Cole featured lead single, Family and Loyalty, gives fans of Gang Starr hope that this new album will be one that will be another great one to add to the duo’s already very formidable groundbreaking and iconic legacy.
