Janelle Monáe doesn’t waste no time in dropping the very creative and amazing new Lacey Duke-directed video just a little over an hour ago for her very smooth and confident latest single, I Like That. Which comes exactly a week after she dropped the single and just days before her highly-anticipated third solo album, Dirty Computer, drops this Friday April 27th.
Monáe may not have grown up with many digging or liking her style or quite fitting in, as she sings about throughout much of the very catchy new record, but she very much celebrates her own unique individuality, sensuality and self-love, as well as her own idiosyncrasies that set her apart in not only the very introspective new ballad, but it’s visuals as well. The very symbolic new visual opening with Ms. Monáe dressed in a very elegantly angelic long white trench coat, long thigh-high white boots and white nails along with partially white dyed braids to match, sitting in a theater as multiple forms of her sit and she starts to sing the very gospel-infused and catchy confident chorus. Eventually getting down to just one copy of Janelle and going back and forth between multiple copies and one soul copy of Ms. Monáe, it than finds herself showing of her beauty she now accepts with just a white bra, bare feet, draped down blue and red flowery skirt, big frizzy hair and long hoop earrings in an exotic setting with peacocks and other women, who are also dressed in queen-like exotic attire.
Those idiosyncrasies really being accepted in her own queen-like beauty and perfectly amazingly brown caramel bronze skin tone she displays throughout the new video, it also even finds Ms. Monáe going full birthday suit, but still leaving much to the imagination, as she bathes in a bath tub by herself in an exotic setting with flamingos. Just when you think Janelle could never out due her last visuals she comes with ones like these that are easily one of her best yet and really show what a truly great artist from the music to the visuals and everything in between, she truly is and you really can’t stop watching with how amazing they’re and bring the record that much more to life and make you love the song/record that much more.
If that wasn’t enough, she also announced today that she will be going back on tour again with her new, Dirty Computer Tour in support of the new album, starting June 11th in Seattle, WAS and lasting till Aug. 4th when it closes at Tabernacle in her hometown of Atlanta. The 28-trek U.S. and Canada summer tour, which will have her Wondaland Records artists St. Beauty opening as special support for her will hit nearly every major city from Los Angeles to New York, Chicago, Boston, Washington, D.C., Phoenix, Detroit, Vancouver and Toronto among others.
