Big Boi Joins Jason Mitchell As Part Of Highly-Anticipated Sony Remake Of Superfly

Grammy-award winning artist and actor, Big Boi was just announced as the latest cast member to the upcoming highly-anticipated Sony remake of Superfly.  Joining breakout Straight Outta Compton and The Chi star, Jason Mitchell, Big will play Mayor Atkins in the remake of the 1976 classic.

A very great addition to an already great cast that has Trevor Jackson of current Freeform comedy, Grown-ish, playing the lead in the cast as Youngblood Priest, while Mitchell plays his business partner Eddie.  Not noted as much of an actor as his other half of Outkast, Andre 3000, people forget how great of an actor and Hollywood career Big Boi has had as well.  Starring in ATL, Idlewild, a few TV shows and just recently wrapping up recurring roles on BET’s The Quad and MTV’s Scream, as well as an appearance on Lee Daniels’ FOX series Star.

The screenplay for the film was penned by the Watchmen’s Alex Tse, while renowned and legendary video director, Director X, is set to direct the reimagining of the original Blaxploitation crime drama, which follows an African-American cocaine dealer who tries to secure one more deal before getting out of the business.

Grammy-nominated rapper, fellow ATLien and Dungeon Family member, Future is set to curate the soundtrack.  As well as produce the film alongside John Silver.

With an expected Summer release date of June 15, 2018 in theatres, the film, which is currently filming in Atlanta, sounds like it will have plenty of ATL flavor.
