If you were looking for a fun and energetic type performance on the first day of Lollapalooza at Grant Park in Chicago, then you definitely got it with Wiz Khalifa’s set on the Bud Light stage. Though not one of Wiz’s better performances or even among the best of the festival, it was still pretty solid for the most part.
Going through a lot of his hits like Work, Hard, Play Hard, On My Level and No Sleep, as well as Young, Wild & Free and of course Taylor Gang, Wiz had the mostly stoner-filled crowd singing and rapping along to many of his hits without a care in the world. Even asking a few times of the crowd, “If they do what the f^*k they want and when they want?” To scream and let him know. To which a majority of them emphatically implied, “Heck, yeah!”
About 35-40 minutes into his set, Wiz would be the first big name artist, as I had previously predicted to possibly bring a guest aritst out to Lollapalooza too for this year. Bringing out longtime Taylor Gang affiliate, Ty Dolla $ign. Saying before he brought out Ty, that he had heard Lollapalooza was one of the most live festivals there’s and if they’re, “If they where ready for who he was about to bring out?”
To which the familiar, “Ohhh, ohhh. I see two of my b*^&hes in the the club!” rang out, as Ty, sporting heart-shaped glasses, came out singing his very popular debut hit single. Also going into his latest single, Love U Better, which he just released last month after that. Ty’s familiar distinct vocals had everybody singing along, before Wiz came back out and they went into their very popular hit collabo with Snoop Dogg, You and Your Friends. Ty would then thank Wiz for giving him his start and how much he helped him get to where he is now too. But Wiz wouldn’t let Dolla $ign leave before talking about a recently leaked track, that is yet another collabo between the two. Saying how nobody has yet heard the full song, Wiz decided to not only premiere the full version of the new record, Baby Give Me Something, between the two, but also have them give the very first live performance of the record in Grant Park for all the dedicated Taylor Gang fans and supporters that as Wiz put it, “Whether they supported them from Day 1 or where new fans that just recently got into their music.”
Wiz would then once Ty left, go into one of his biggest hits to date, Black and Yellow. Which had everybody singing along in very enthusiastic fashion to the always very familiar and catchy, “Yeah, uh huh, you know what it is. Black and yellow. Black and yellow. Black and yellow. Black and yellow. Yeah, uh huh, you know what it is. Black and yellow. Black and yellow. Black and yellow. Black and yellow.” That of course being the perfect record to close out Wiz’s set too.
