The Roots 10th Annual Roots Picnic To Be Headlined by Roots with Pharrell, Lil Wayne, Solange and More

In honor of their 10th annual anniversary of The Roots Picnic, earlier today the legendary crew announced this years star-studded lineup and that the festival will be returning to Philadelphia’s Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing in there home of Philly, a year after expanding to New York City.

Now in its 10th year, this acclaimed festival that started out “as a concept, an idea, a conversation between me, Tarik (Black Thought), Ahmir (Questlove) and Rich (Nichols),” Roots longtime manager and partner in Maverick Management , Shawn Gee said in a statement, will be headlined by a joint set from Pharrell and The Roots, Lil Wayne, Solange, 21 Savage, Kimbra and more.  Including a “live mixtape” by The Roots’ Black Thought with J. Period, which will include appearances by Fat Joe, Mobb Deep and famed producer, and former Roots band member Scott Storch.

Annually including some of music’s biggest and hottest names to kick off the summer festival season.  The festival has featured such artists as Nas, Public Enemy, Rakim, Usher, Leon Bridges, hometown hero Will Smith, The Weeknd, A$AP Rocky, The Black Keys, John Legend, Janelle Monáe, Kid Cudi and more over it’s long and storied history.

Gee also had this to say in a statement about the annual picnic, “It’s amazing that it has grown into such a valued piece of the cultural landscape of our hometown of Philadelphia.  We were blessed to expand the Picnic to NYC last year, and the brand will continue to grow and evolve, but Philly will ALWAYS be the home, the birthplace of Roots Picnic.  We are super excited to bring a packed lineup to celebrate our 10th anniversary, and as always there will be plenty of surprises and special guests.”

This year’s Roots Picnic is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 3rd and tickets are currently on sale now at RootsPicnic.com and through several Ticketmaster and Live Nation outlets.
