The Weeknd’s Starboy Tops The Billboard 200 Chart With Second Straight No. 1, Third Biggest Debut of 2016

The Weeknd is a shining star and his star as a legitimate mainstream crossover is now shining as bright as ever.  With his latest album, Starboy, having a strong opening week by being the No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart with sales of 348,000 units and 209,000 in traditional album sales, according to Nielsen Music.

This marks the second highest debut for the Toronto singer/songwriter, who’s previously highest charted debut is last year’s Beauty Behind the Madness.  That set debuting at No. 1 in the week beginning on Aug. 28, 2015 with 412,000 units and 326,000 in traditional album sales.

The XO singer’s strong showing is also the third-largest debut of the year.  Only being topped by fellow Toronto native Drake’s Views and Beyoncé’s LEMONADE.  Congrats to The Weeknd on the great opening and continued success.
