New Artist Spotlight – Mickey Taelor with 3 Stacks

Mickey Taelor

A little under a year ago, I spotlighted rising Chicago emcee and entertainer, Prophet Amen Ra and his single S.T.O.M. (Stop Tweaking On Me) here on TheHipHopDemocrat.  Today after talking with him, I have decided to feature another new artist, this time coming from the Westcoast by the name of Mickey Taelor.  This will be the first of hopefully many more new artist spotlights me and TheHipHopDemocrat will be doing in the coming months.  Not for sure if that is how me and the rest of TheHipHopDemocrat staff will be doing it, but for the time being that is the plan of possibly doing it every month or maybe every other month.  We will see how feedback goes with this one first and then go from there.  So without further ado here is more on Mickey Taelor, who’s music you can’t really categorize into one specific genre (though we will just lump it into the Alternative R&B category for now) with the many different and unique influences she has from Lauryn Hill to Billie Holliday and Erykah Buda to create her own unique sound.  So today I’m highlighting the video for the lead single, 3 Stacks, from her latest album, Essentials, which can now be heard and or purchased on Apple Music.  Representing ChampionsOnly98, this Los Angeles, California natives visuals for the Willie B-produced 3 Stacks is very trippy, but also creative, as well as somewhat NSFW and really shows off the unique sounds and influences of Mickey quite well.  So if you want you could watch the Kwaz Fraser-directed video, which was spotlighted on Revolt TV a couple months ago, for the track below and look to be hearing a lot more of this very talented L.A. artist in the near future.
