Kendrick Lamar, Rap Lead 58th Annual Grammy Awards Nominations

All praise and hail to King Kendrick!!!  As Kendrick Lamar dominated not only Rap/Hip-Hop this year, but music in general in 2015 with the release of his critically acclaimed sophomore album, To Pimp a Butterfly.

It really showed how much the hard work payed off for the Compton emcee too, as Monday, Lamar was nominated for a whopping and record 11 nominations for the upcoming 58th Annual Grammy Awards.

It was a record nominations for a rapper in a single year, beating out one of Lamar’s musical idols/influences Eminem’s previous record of 10 at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards.  It was also only one shy of Michael Jackson’s record 12 nominations he received in 1984 for his groundbreaking album, Thriller.

Some of the more notable categories that Kendrick is nominated for include Album of the Year and Best Rap Album for said album, as well as Song of the Year for “Alright feat. Pharrell.”

Everyone felt Lamar was snubbed in the Best Rap Album category last year and it looks like The Grammys are more than trying to make up for it with all of this years nominations.  Though it was also good timing cause the Compton emcee really deserves all the nods for the upcoming 58th Annual Grammy Awards.

Lamar wasn’t alone in the Rap/Hip-Hop and R&B category, which dominated the nominations with The Weeknd picking up seven noms, as well as Drake picking up five.  The Weeknd is part of the stiff competition that Kendrick will face for Album of the Year and Record of the Year.  Two categories that also include Taylor Swift, who was also nominated for seven awards.

A partial list of the more important categories and Rap/Hip-Hop categories that Lamar will be competing in for the awards show, which will air live on Monday Feb. 15th at 8p.m. from the Staples Center in his hometown of Los Angeles is listed below.
