Besides hometown hero Kendrick Lamar’s performance last night at the 2015 BET Awards, one of the main highlights of the whole night is when Puff Daddy pulled off what was thought to be a rumor in the reunion of of the Bad Boy Family.
As Puff reunited everybody from Ma$e to Lil’ Kim and The Lox (sans Styles P), as well as Faith Evans and 112 for a 20th Anniversary set that was very memorable and had the whole crowd at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater moving and grooving to the music a lot of them grew up on.
The near 11 minute set kicked off with Puff’s first ever solo record “Can’t Nobody Hold Me Down” before going into Puff and M-A-Dollar-Sign E’s “Feel So Good” with them both donning their signature red leather outfits. Then 112 followed with “Peaches and Cream” before they segued quickly into Diddy’s “I Need a Girl (Part 2).” Faith Evans in a red mink then emerged singing “Love Like This,” as pandemonium ensued from the crowd and I’m sure many people watching at home.
One of the few downsides of the performance was when Bad Boy 2.0 artist French Montana came out to perform his verse from Bobby Shmurda’s “Hot Ni**a (Remix)” and when Total wasn’t there when they played the late great Notorious B.I.G.’s verse from Total’s “Can’t See You.” Puff and company then set off their classic “All About the Benjamins” with Jadakiss and Sheek Louch of The Lox front and center and Puff even having a minor fall at the beginning, which became one of the funnier moments of the night that everyone turned into a meme.
This was before Lil’ Kim rose up out from beneath the stage like a phoenix and in her signature Queen Bee pose proceeded to spit her classic “Benjamins” verse. Despite missing many original Bad Boy artists you would’ve thought would have been a part of the performance like G. Dep, Shyne and Black Rob among others, it was a very memorable performance, which Puff capped off with by debuting his latest single “Finna Get Loose” with help from Pharrell (who produced the song), while Janelle Monáe joined her Bad Boy family and Chris Brown danced through the aisles. Making it a very memorable reunion, which you can view in full below.
