Common and John Legend Take Home Best Original Song at Golden Globes, Com Delivers Glorious Acceptance Speech

All glory be to Common and John Legend on what was a glorious moment for the two at Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards.  As they took home the award for Best Original Song, for their glorious song, “Glory,” their contribution to the civil rights movie, Selma.

It was only right in a surprise move that the award was given to them by musical legend Prince, who presented the prize to them at the 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards.  While John Legend gave a pretty good acceptance speech by acknowledging those who are still fighting for justice today, it was Chicago emcee/actor Common’s acceptance that really stole the show.  As he thanked director Ava DuVernay and producer Oprah Winfrey in his very powerful speech.

“I am the hopeful black woman who was denied her right to vote.  I am the caring white supporter killed on the front line of freedom.  I am the unarmed black kid who maybe needed a hand but was instead given a bullet.  I am the two fallen police officers slain in the line of duty.  Selma has awakened my humanity.” said Common, who also stars in the film.  “We look to the future and we want to create a better world.  Now is our time to change the world.  Selma is now.”
