New MC Lyte – Dear John feat. Common & 10 Beats

We have not heard from Hip-Hop legend MC Lyte on the mic in a minute, but today that changes as the female emcee returns with a new solo track, Dear John. Over the classic boom-bap percussion, nice baseline and perfectly placed James Brown sample of the Loudbox-produced track, Lyte shows why she’s not only arguably the greatest female ever on the mic, but one of the nicest emcees ever period, male or female to touch the mic. As the legendary emcee with a nice guest verse from fellow Hip-Hop legend Common and the hook from 10Beats pen a letter to all the young black men in America to do better than what they’re expected to in contemporary America growing up for both their sons and daughters, while not getting caught up in wasting or throwing away their money for all the idealistic things they’re mostly taught to get caught up in. The track will also be featured on her upcoming Centric “Being” special that’s scheduled to air this Saturday Sept. 13, 2014 at 9 p.m. EST and expect a new album later this year. No word on if this will also be on the as yet untitled album.
