Yesterday while I was in the midst of coincidentally going to see Big Boi here in Chicago for his current Shoes for Running world tour with 1-time protege Killer Mike this new video from another Big Boi protege, here Janelle Monáe was released. As Ms. Monáe in her classy signature black and white tux she’s become accustomed with takes us on a trip to Wondaland with Erykah Buda for their jazzy and funky collaboration Q.U.E.E.N. that once again defies odds and societies norms in breaking rules to bring something great with a strong energy that’s very empowering. Like most of Janelle’s other visuals it features her dancing and having a good time that makes you just want to get up and dance to it as well or even wish that you were a part of the video. You gotta love the syncopated breakdown of her rhymes towards the end and as the lyrics say, capsule “The booty don’t lie.” Ms. Monáe is indeed right about that cause she has always had one and been really beautiful looking, drugstore but just never oversexed or shown herself like that and let her great talent speak for her like a lot more woman artists should. All of that said this lead single from her upcoming The Electric Lady that’s set to drop this fall has not only Grammy-nomination, but Grammy winner written all over it and I can’t wait to hear the rest of her new album when it drops later in the year.
