Texas Rangers Sign Ace Colby Lewis To Extension!

Colby Lewis

While he may not be a factor anymore this season the Texas Rangers signed pitcher Colby Lewis to a one-year, $2 million contract extension earlier today that will keep him with the team for next season.

I’m sure it takes a burden off Lewis, who now doesn’t have to worry about going into the offseason with free agency uncertain about his future and injured.  He had elbow surgery in July and has been out since than.  Not expected to return till sometime next year I’m sure it also takes the pressure of knowing he doesn’t have to rush back.

“There were a lot of questions … rolling into the offseason and not knowing,” Lewis said.  “This sure makes things a lot more comfortable in the offseason.  It’s just a great opportunity.  I think they’re allowing me to get right, get healthy and do it the right way.”

The 33-year-old Lewis, who was the teams opening day starter and is the franchises most winning pitcher in postseason history is expected to start throwing again in January.  Though he said he wouldn’t push himself to hard during his rehab.

Whenever he returns next season I’m sure he will be a much needed welcome boost for the Rangers, who will surely be in the thick of the race once again like they are right now.
