Long time in the making, many months waiting and fittingly not even a week after she received word of the Underground Music Award Nomination for Female Artist of the Year we got “The Truth”. I listened to the entire mixtape today and this staggering collection of intense freestyles and fresh content makes up Persia’s official 2012 statement to the masses. That statement screams out that point blank she is on par if not better then any other woman in the game. There’s something intriguing and mysterious when Persia opens up about her life on wax. You find yourself thinking, “What, wait…..really?” I can attest to the fact that Persia keeps her material very much within arms length of reality. No over-the-top tales of billionaire balling or favors owed to her from South American drug lords. It’s her story vividly told through tight bars and with a voice that effortlessly flows from feminine seductress to menacing marauder.
Stand out tracks include Persia’s ode to the culture, E M CEE (Hip Hop), the street boss themed “Major”, “Countdown” a smooth & sultry selection that could easily rock on any mainstream countdown and the title track ‘The Truth” is just that. There’s little that Persia can’t do on the mic, so as fans flood UMA with votes for their favorite MC I can only hope and pray that a few of your Industry “tastemakers” and bloggers take a little time and bring this jewel to the forefront.
