Before the big lights and endorsement deals, before the goal was to ever to be a bad b**ch or a N***ga in Paris, the art form of rhyming, of moving the crowd and commanding respect through your wordplay was all that mattered. It was the core essential of being a rapper. While many believe that basic belief has been lost in the shine of the mainstream attention the underground of Hip Hop remains true to it.
The Underground Music Awards give needed respect and attention to the levels of Hip Hop just off the commercial radar. The nominees were just released for the 2012 awards and among the many noteworthy artists is New York’s own Persia, featured many times before on this site and others, we at HHD want to extended a congratulatory shout out to Persia for her tireless grind and steady stream of quality music. The female Hop Hip scene is in a period where the people are really hungry for more. We wish Persia the best in her drive to feed them.
