Interview: Dres and Jarobi are evitaN

Dres of Black Sheep and Jarobi of A Tribe Called Quest have come together to form a group : evitaN (Native spelled backwards) to show that men of a certain age can still rip it and that the Native Tongues need to once again be officially reinstated. With the “Speed Of Life” (dropping digitally at the end of July.) With features from artists like Homeboy Sandman, Torae, and Sadat X, these two hope to leave millions of Hip Hop listeners’ in musical bliss.

The anticipation is nearing breaking point now for the album release of the Native Tongue’s tag-team comprised of Dres and Jarobi.

One of their first singles is “3 Kings” which can be easily considered a Native Tongues mini-reunion. With Will Tell on the beat, a guest appearance by Brand Nubian’s Sadat X and a cameo by Kool Herc, they take us on a boom bap laced foray down Hip Hop memory lane

The two are set to take stage at the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival’s “Show & Prove” Super Bowl on July 9th at Brooklyn Bowl.

I got a chance to catch up with evitaN at the festival mixer last night at the knitting factory in Brooklyn to discuss everything from the album to a possible tour with other Native Tongue artists.

Check out the interview and come out and support evitaN and Brooklyn Bodega on July 9th:
