In a half dozen phone calls between a locked-up George Zimmerman and his wife, the couple talk about their confidence in the future and how to move around money, just-released recordings reveal.
Special Prosecutor Angela Corey this morning released audio of several phone calls between Zimmerman while he was locked in the Seminole County Jail, and his wife.
Prosecutors allege they prove that Shellie Zimmerman lied when she told a judge that the couple was broke.
The recordings reveal that Zimmerman, from his jail cell, gave his wife step-by-step instructions on how to change a password and clear security questions. Prosecutors allege that was to move money out of an Internet PayPal account that was being flooded with donations for him.
In a call recorded April 16, Zimmerman, while in jail, talks his wife and sister through changing a computer password while they’re at a Florida credit union so they can move around funds.
In a call April 12, the day after his arrest, Zimmerman says he is thrilled by all the money and support his website has generated.
“Oh, man, that feels good,” he told his wife.
“What?” asks his wife.
“That there are people in America that care,” he said.
“Yeah they do,” she answered. “Trust me, and boy, after what happened yesterday, so many people (sic) your website kept crashing.”
“Wow,” he said.
“People are trying to give you words of support and kindness,” she said.
A few moments later, she said, “After all this is over, you’re going to be able to have a great life.”
“We’re will,” he corrected her.
“Yeah, we will.”
“I’m excited,” he said.
Later in that conversation, she said, “I wish you were here, of course.”
Said he, “I will be.”
“I know it. I know it. I visualize you walking in that door. … I’m so grateful to talk to you, to even know you’re alive.
In the last recording released today, made April 16, Zimmerman sounds tired but tells his wife, “I’m doing well.”
“I’ve gotten so many positive letters today,” George Zimmerman told Shellie. The talk then turns to finances. The two seem to tiptoe around referring to their accounts or funds specifically.
“You know about fees and stuff right?” Shellie Zimmerman asks her husband, adding that the fees she’s worried about are “not from our bank.”
The two also discussed how to get George Zimmerman safely out of jail. Shellie said she’d been talking with the couple’s “safety counsel,” and they talked about the possibility of driving Zimmerman to an airport parking garage to swap vehicles.
