No more eavesdropping: Apple to build private, employee-only offsite cafeteria
April 27th, 2012 | By SanaArshad in Technology | No Comments »
Apple’s level of secrecy over its projects and products has been called draconian, even to the point of inconveniencing (and that’s putting it nicely) employees, and soon they won’t even be able to leave Apple’s facilities to have lunch, for fear of competitors overhearing their conversations. Admittedly, that’s a little hyperbolic, but there is a measure of truth to that statement.
Apple has had a planning request approved by the Cupertino Planning Commission, one that will allow the company to build a two-story, cafeteria-style facility to accommodate employees that currently work out of the various Apple facilities along Bandley Drive on the west side of North De Anza Boulevard. The key: the facility will be Apple-owned, and private, with no public access.

The Internet now has a Hall of Fame, nearly 30 years after what is considered its official birthdate, as on Monday, April 23, 2012, the first inductees were announced.
This is the inaugural class of Internet Society’s Hall of Fame. This group includes 33 of the people who were instrumental and influential in the development of the Internet, including World Wide Web inventor Tim Berners-Lee; Internet “fathers” Robert Kahn and Vinton Cerf; and former director of DARPA Charles Herzfeld. Indeed, although many continue to make fun of him to this day, Al Gore was also inducted.

Armenians upset at Obama for breaking promise to recognize Armenian genocide
April 23rd, 2012 | By SanaArshad in News, Obama, Political | No Comments »
For the past three years, President Obama has recognized Armenian Remembrance Day by using words such as “horrific” to describe the slaughter of 1.5 million Armenians at the hands of the Ottoman Empire, breaking his promise to use the word “genocide.”
That does not sit well with many Armenian Americans, who say they feel betrayed.
“He has, in addition to betraying his own words and compromising America’s moral standing, gravely disappointed Armenians here in the United States, in Armenia, and around the world who had looked to him as an example of courage, conviction, and conscience,” the Armenian National Committee of America said in a statement.
Study finds high levels of toxic chemicals in popular nail polishes
April 23rd, 2012 | By SanaArshad in Health, News | No Comments »
Some nail polishes commonly found in salons and advertised as free of chemicals actually have high levels of agents known to cause birth defects, according to California chemical regulators.
A Department of Toxic Substances Control report released Tuesday determined that the mislabeled nail products have the potential to harm thousands of women who work in more than 48,000 nail salons in California and their customers.
Investigators chose 25 brands at random, including a number of products claiming to be free of the chemicals toluene, dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and formaldehyde, which are known as the “toxic trio.”
