SOPA Protest: Sites Going Dark 1/18/12

Tomorrow, January 18th, 2012 many of your favorite sites will be “going dark” in protest of the SOPA and PIPA acts being floated around and debated in Congress. What’s SOPA and PIPA you ask? Why you can just go here to find out(It was a very well written article I might add).

Here is the current list of sites planning to go dark:

Google will post a link on its home page to a document explaining its opposition to the bill.

Mozilla.com, home of the popular Web browser Firefox, will go dark.

Reddit, the social news site owned by Advance Publications, will go dark.

WordPress.org will go dark.

TwitPic, the popular site where Twitter users share photographs, will go dark.

MoveOn.org, the political site, will go dark.

The Cheezburger network, including sites like The Daily What and Fail Blog, will be dark.

BoingBoing.net will be dark.

Several gaming companies, including Minecraft.net, Riot Games, Epic Games, 38 Studios and Red 5 Studios, will be dark.

I’m sure more sites will be joining the SOPA protest before the night is through so be prepared to be “locked out” of your favorite site tomorrow. Also, President Obama’s Administration has signaled that it will block any SOPA legislation that comes across the President’s desk in its current form. And while that may be cause to cheer, SOPA’s sibling act, PIPA, is still in the running. And don’t be too surprised if everyone’s favorite hip hop site with political swag goes dark tomorrow as well.
