Samsung’s Galaxy S2 Line Lands On American Shores

image

What is being touted as the best Android powered smartphone to date, the Samsung Galaxy S2 line is finally breaching American shores. Packed with the latest Android software(Gingerbread), the gorgeous-to-behold Super AMOLED Plus 4.3-4.52 inch screens(Yes, bigger is indeed better. Don’t be fooled by the hype about its not the size… Because that’s just something the little guys say to make themselves feel better) and the dual core 1.2ghz Exynos processor, the Galaxy S2 will be on three of the four major US wireless carriers(Verizon is holding out for the equally impressive Nexus Prime). Sprint, America’s favorite pin dropping and truly unlimited carrier will be the first to get this sexy beast on September 16th with the others to follow afterwards. And even though I’m a firm EVO fan, this bad boy will likely be my next Android powered handset.

Official Specs:

Samsung Exynos™ 1.2GHz dual-core processor

Voice Talk by Vlingo™ for voice commands including: voice dial, text message, navigation, music, web browsing and search

Task Manager to view and close the applications and to check on memory usage via the Task Manager widget

Screenshot feature by pressing the power button and the home key simultaneously (something Apple will surely consider suing over)

Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface provides “superior multitasking and customization for an enhanced visual and intuitive smartphone experience”

HDMI out, Smart Adapter connects to any HDTV with video through the Media Hub at 480i (DVD quality)

Motion UX, 6-axis gyroscope, proximity, light, noise

Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n
Visual Voicemail

Enterprise functionality including hardware-based encryption, SSL VPN support and Microsoft Exchange Activesync integration

MicroSD card slot that supports up to a 32GB memory card

Bluetooth 3.0

Sprint’s variant, the Epic Touch 4G, will feature a 1800mAh battery and a 4.52 inch screen. T-Mobile’s variant, the Hercules, will also feature a 4.52 inch screen. At&t is touting that their variant will be the “thinnest” and fastest smartphone ever.

With the Galaxy S phones coming out before or around the rumored iPhone 5 launch date(as well as the rumored launch date for the Samsung Nexus Prime), things are heating up in the mobile world. Looks like we’ve got a fight on our hands. Pass the popcorn please.
