In a move that has shocked and rocked the tech world, Steve Jobs, father of iOS and patent troll tech wizard extraordinaire has stepped down from the helm of Apple. Tim Cook is confirmed to be replacing Jobs as CEO and Jobs himself will stay on as Chairman of the Board. Here is the statement from Jobs himself:
“I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.
I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.
As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.
I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.
I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you”.
Steve
Now, everyone who knows me knows that I’m no fan of Steve Jobs or any Apple product for that matter. I believe they’re overrated and Steve Jobs, while brilliant, has become and led his company to become, among other things, the world’s biggest patent trolling company. But as I said, Jobs’ brilliance cannot be denied and I do give credit where credit is due. I can’t help but wonder though, the last time Jobs left Apple, the company went on a decade long spiral into bad business moves and near bankruptcy. Will this be history repeating itself? Only time will tell.
