New iPhone to have both CDMA and GSM Radio’s?

File this one squarely in the rumor mill department, but if it turns out to be true, the iPhone might actually have a feature that would finally make it innovative.

According to strong rumor and a report from Japanese blog Macotakara, the oft rumored next generation of the wildly successful iPhone, whether it be called iPhone 4S or iPhone 5, will come with both CDMA and GSM radios. This would mean that Apple would only have to produce one device that would be able to work on both At&t and Verizon‘s network. Macotakara believes that the next gen iPhone will come with outer body similiar to Verizon’s iPhone 4 but will also contain a SIM card slot. The Japanese blog also believes that the new iPhone will contain a narrower from receiver slit, a smaller hole for the front facing camera and support for the 5GHz band of 802.11n WiFi network.

Keep in mind this is all unconfirmed by Apple but would make since since Verizon operates on the CDMA network and At&t operates on the GSM network. This would make sense however, so Apple won’t have to continue to make two different handsets.
