Cassidy Is Not A Murder Suspect

Suspicion rose when rapper Cassidy was arrested over the weekend. Rumors spread that he was a suspect in a murder. But it turns out he was arrested solely on probation violation charges. He’s not a suspect.

“In reference to the recent inquires regarding Barry Reese [Cassidy], on Saturday, May 14, 2011, Reese was arrested by Hackensack Police for a probation violation for a previous aggravated assault incident in Philadelphia,” the PPD public affairs office said in a statement. “Reese was placed in probation violation status for non-reporting only. Reese is currently being held in Bergen County Prison awaiting extradition to Philadelphia. Reese is not wanted for any other crime / violation in Philadelphia.”

Police originally reported that the rapper was considered “armed and dangerous.” After leaving his New Jersey home on Saturday, law enforcement followed him and apprehended him.

The arrest stems from an arrest back in 2005. He was sentenced to 11-23 months in prison for a first-degree murder charge. It was later reduced to involuntary manslaughter for the shooting death of 22-year-old Desmond Hawkins.

He was released from prison March of 2006 after serving eight months.
