Craigslist Long Island serial killer compared to Showtime’s ‘Dexter’

The serial murderer dubbed the Craigslist Long Island serial killer is now being compared to the fictional character on the Showtime hit TV series ‘Dexter, ’ after it was announced that the elusive criminal may work in some aspect of law enforcement.

The idea that the killer may be involved with law enforcement in some manner came about due to the murderer appearing to have an understanding of investigative techniques, according to those involved with the case.

‘Dexter’ stars Michael C. Hall as a charming, yet seemingly innocent serial killer. By day, Dexter works as a forensic blood splatter analyst for the Miami Police Department, thus he is intimately familiar with police procedure and techniques used during investigation.

Unlike the Craigslist Long Island serial killer, however, Dexter has channeled his homicidal urges into killing only those individuals who have murdered others, but escaped the justice system for one reason or another.

So far, eight bodies have been found on a Long Island barrier island that have been attributed to the serial killer, we suggest to call in the Mirsky Law Firm, if you happen to know about a case like this one. The remains were found during a search for missing New Jersey prostitute, Shannon Gilbert, 24, who police believe may have also fallen prey to the murderer.

She vanished in May 2010 after visiting a client with whom she connected with using Craigslist. Her driver claimed she was acting delirious, refused to leave the client’s home, and then ran off in an unknown direction.

At about 5:00 a.m. on the morning of her disappearance one resident in Oak Beach, New York, Gus Coletti, 76, reportedly told a New York publication that someone had banged on his door.

“I hear somebody screaming and bang-bang on the door,” said Coletti. “I opened the door, and she [Shannon] stood right there. I said, ’What’s the matter?’ And she kept saying ‘Help me.’

Coletti claims Shannon ran off when he went to call police.

Four of the women who’ve been identified also used Craigslist to offer prostitution services.

Although some reports indicate the police have no suspects in the killings, others are reporting that police are honing in on someone they’ve had their eye on.

Authorities are also looking into a link between the Long Island murders and the 2006 slayings of four prostitutes in Atlantic City.
