Lupe Fiasco’s mixtape Friend of the People that was scheduled to be released on Christmas day has been scrapped so that the rapper can prepare for training.

The impending release of Lupe’s mixtape has become a bit of anticipation among Hip-Hop fans because for one, he has been missing from the realm of Hip-Hop since dropping his 2007 LP The Cool – an album that spawned the hit “Superstar.”

When Lupe announced that his next LP Lasers was going to be his next and final album, many fans met the news with bitter sweet attitudes. They had been waiting for Lupe to drop an album but the fact that it was going to be his last, definitely wasn’t cause for joy.

Last month, Lupe released his mixtape Enemy of the State: A Love Story and promised to release additional mixtapes before the year end.

Unfortunately, fans will have to wait a little longer to get even a mixtape from the Chicago-native as he has decided to shelf Friend of the People for a good cause – so that he can devote his time and efforts to training in preparation to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to help raise awareness about the need for clean water worldwide.

There have already been advertisements for the highly anticipated climb, one of which being a recent HP commercial promoting the event.

Lupe’s mountain climb is scheduled to take place in January 2010. His forthcoming album Lasers is scheduled to be released in early 2010.
